Equestrian Club

Omagh Academy has enjoyed outstanding success in the inter-schools show jumping circuit over the past 15 months. The squad has won four trophies for team events and, in addition, the individual competition has been won by Georgia Waterson on two occasions.

The squad is now 14 strong and we are able to compete with four teams in two different categories. Not all our rosettes have been won for jumping. Our show jumpers take great pride in turning out both their ponies and themselves in style and teams have won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize at different events for ‘tack and turnout’. Emma Kane has also won 1st prize as an individual.

Our own show, held at Ecclesville Equestrian centre in Fintona on 4th November, 2010, was organised by one of our 6th form pupils, Morgan Semple. It was a huge success and we are planning for the 2011 show. Our success has been recognised in the Omagh area and hence two of our teams have been nominated for the ‘Omagh Sports Awards’ and the ‘Ulster Herald Sports Personality Awards’- School Team of The Year 2010 section.
