A Level Government and Politics is offered to students in Years 13 and 14.

What we study in year 13?

In Year 13 we look at the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive at AS and we get the chance to visit Parliament Buildings, Stormont each year.

Each year we get the opportunity to meet MLAs and other local politicians.

We also study the British Political Process in Year 13.

We must keep in touch with the changing political world on a regular basis which involves reading newspapers, social media and watching the news.
At AS - there is one exam paper on the Northern Ireland Political System which lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes and another on the British Political Process which lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.
What we study in year 14?

In Year 14 we complete a Comparative unit on the Republic of Ireland Political System and the British Political system. This involves a visit to the Oireachtas in Dublin.

Our A2 2 Unit is Political Power which looks at Political systems around the world from the USA to Russia and China and studies the reasons for state survival and collapse.

We also study the Political Theories of Marxism, Feminism, Elitism and the Pluralist Theory.
At A2 - there is one Comparative exam paper which lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes and one paper on Political Power which lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
