Sixth Form

Years Thirteen and Fourteen

The majority of our students decide to continue with their academic studies by returning to school for A-level study.  We offer a wide range of subjects and pupils are encouraged to choose 4 AS Levels in Year 13, continuing with at least 3 of these in Year 14. 

Careers advice is extremely important at this time and students receive individual counsel and assistance as they decide on their future career path.  A weekly Careers class is an important component of the school timetable.  With this in mind, the Careers Department also organises a highly successful and enjoyable week of ‘Work Experience’ in Year 13 which offers students a glimpse into their proposed career path.  Over 90% of our students move to University upon completion of A-levels and we have a strong tradition of pupils attending Oxford, Cambridge, Trinity College Dublin and other highly reputable universities within the UK.

All pupils in Sixth Form take part in weekly PE lessons where a wide range of sporting opportunities is available – including swimming, badminton, spinning, aerobics, rugby, hockey and athletics.

Pupils opting to studying 3 subjects at AS level follow an enhancement programme which includes Community Care, Young Enterprise, Italian for Beginners and the Young Drivers Scheme.  All pupils in Year 14 follow a General Studies Programme. 

Sixth Form is a time when we encourage our young adults to set goals and aspirations and to aim for the highest standard possible.  The attributes of maturity and independent learning are developed as we see pupils adopt positions of responsibility within school and act as mentors for the younger pupils.

A supervised study room, common room, careers suite and library facilities are offered to assist our sixth formers with their learning.
